Reels translations is Instagram’s feature that creates speech sounding like the creator’s own voice in other languages, with support for 14 languages and translation of on-screen captions.1 Mosseri said in July 2026 that it can help creators reach people who speak another language but might be interested in their content.1 His January 2026 recommendation was to select all available languages when enabling translations for a reel.2

Creating and publishing translated reels

To create translated reels, Instagram for Creators says to turn on “Translate voices with ” before publishing.3 If the toggle is not on the initial publishing screen, tap “More options” to find it.3 Open “translation settings” to choose languages, add optional lip-syncing so your mouth movements match the translated words, and request a preview for approval.23 When translations are ready for review, a notification prompts you to publish or discard them, and neither choice affects the original reel you posted.3 Mosseri recommended scheduling translated reels ahead of time so translations can be ready when the reel goes live, and said in March 2026 that scheduling does not reduce how many people Instagram shows a reel to.24 After publication, a breakdown of views by language shows how each translation is performing.3

Choosing translated or original audio

Translated reels carry a “Translated with ” label, which Meta’s Newsroom says identifies translated content for viewers.5 Viewers can turn translations on or off and manage their language preferences on Instagram.5 To hear a reel in its original language, open the three-dot settings menu, go to the audio and language section, and select “Don’t translate.”5
