User feedback
Contents
User feedback on Instagram is what people directly tell the app they want to see more or less of, helping it adjust its recommendations.12 People can use Interested and Not interested on recommended posts, choose broader viewing preferences and edit Instagram’s understanding of their interests.134 Feedback matters both to an individual’s viewing experience and to creators’ opportunities to find new audiences, because Instagram also considers what people broadly say they dislike.56 In June 2026, Adam Mosseri described the goal for Your Algorithm as making recommendations feel like something people can talk to rather than something that happens to them.7
Feedback on individual recommendations
Instagram distinguishes direct feedback from ordinary interactions with profiles and content, which also help it understand what someone enjoys.3 Meta’s Transparency Center lists recommended posts in Feed, Reels, Explore and Search as places where people can express a positive or negative preference about an individual recommendation.1 Mosseri explained in June 2025 that Instagram provides ways to correct its choices because its predictions about what people will enjoy can be wrong.2
Controls for broader viewing preferences
Favorites raises selected accounts’ new posts in Feed and offers a view containing only those accounts, while Following shows followed accounts’ posts from the last 30 days in chronological order; these are choices about viewing followed accounts, not judgments about individual suggested posts.3 Snoozing all suggested Feed posts provides a 30-day break from recommendations.3 Sensitive Content Control adjusts how much potentially upsetting material someone sees from accounts they do not follow, with Instagram’s July 2021 explanation and Mosseri’s posts describing its use in Explore.8910 Ad topic preferences concern advertising rather than ordinary recommendations, and Meta’s Newsroom describes managing them through Ad preferences in Accounts Center.11
Why audience feedback matters for creator reach
Instagram for Creators identifies clickbait and engagement bait as examples of content users broadly say they dislike in its guidance about finding new audiences.5 Under the Recommendation Guidelines described by Meta’s Newsroom, content can remain allowed on Meta’s platforms but not be shown in places that recommend content from accounts people have not chosen to follow, restricting its opportunities to reach non-followers.56
